What to Expect

We understand that visiting a church for the first time can be a bit intimidating. Hopefully, the following questions and answers will let you know what to expect and make you feel comfortable visiting us.

Where do I park?

We have small parking lot that can be entered from Lincoln Avenue. Most of the parking is along the curb on the three streets that adjoin the property.

What should I do when I get there?

When you arrive, an usher will give you bulletin. This bulletin contains an outline of the day’s service. Once you’ve received a bulletin, feel free choose a place in the pews. The pews are not reserved for anyone; you are free to choose any open place to sit.

How will I know what to do during the service?

The bulletin tells which service is being used this day, and it tells the page number where that service begins in the service book. Copies of the service book are in the book rack on the back of the pew in front of you. Turn to that page, and you will find the service completely written out. The Ordinary (the liturgy that does not change) for that service is in the service book. The propers (those parts of the service that change from Sunday to Sunday) are printed in an insert in the bulletin.

May I receive Holy Communion when I visit?

We follow the Scriptural and historical practice of closed Communion. The Lord's Supper is the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, given and shed for us for the forgiveness of sins. When we commune at this altar, we publicly express our unity with the congregation and we confess that its teaching is true. (Acts 2:42, 1 Corinthians 1:10; 10:16-18; 11:26-29) Visitors who are not confirmed members of a congregation of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod or of a sister synod are asked to refrain from communing until you have visited with the pastor. A pamphlet explaining our Communion practice is available in the rack on the back of each pew.
